The Great Juice Debate

Introduction

As different juices make their way into the school's breakfast, lunch, and afterschool snacks, a spirited debate has emerged among students: which juice is the best? With orange juice, apple juice, and wild berry blend, there seems to be a lot of controversy regarding which is the most liked by students at Eagle Rock High School. To find out which juice topped the charts, I decided to take matters into my own hands and survey students to gather their opinions.

Apple Juice

After gathering feedback from fellow students, I asked my peers about their preferences. I received various opinions on each juice, but apple juice emerged as a favorite among many due to its simplicity and deep connections. Apple juice lovers appreciate its taste, particularly in comparison to orange juice, with one student stating, “I think it’s too sour, and there's pulp in it which makes me nauseous.” Moreover, apple juice seems to evoke strong emotions; one student remarked, “It's my favorite because I’ve had history with it; it's gone through things with me.” Overall, apple juice appears to have the deepest emotional connection among students.

However, apple juice isn't without its critics. Some argue that it is the most basic option compared to the other flavors. Some even referred to it as “tasteless and boring,” noting that it often tastes watered down and mostly consists of water. After further research on why people perceive apple juice as diluted, I discovered it is made up of more water than actual juice. Although apple juice has a neutral standing, it does seem to carry the title of best juice among students.

Orange Juice

Orange juice is also a common favorite on campus, recognized for its sweet and tangy taste. Some students even argue that it is the best juice and should be the only option available. Strong opinions surround orange juice because of its classic, nostalgic flavor. One student asserted, “You never hear anyone say they're going to get a cup of apple or wild berry blend; you always hear orange juice.” This sentiment indicates that orange juice is an important staple at the school, offering a nostalgic feel for many students. One individual said, “It just brings back good memories of elementary school. It was the first juice I've ever tried at school.” Many students associate orange juice with their school breakfast routine.

Even though orange juice came in second overall, numerous students expressed strong opinions about it being too sweet or even gross. One student compared it to “the liquid of a glowstick,” while others made odd comparisons, saying it tasted like “pure chemicals.” Some students attempted to justify its flavor by claiming it adds “extra flavor” due to its tangy appeal. This left many questioning whether the flavor is more manufactured than natural.

Berry Juice

Berry juice, although not everyone's favorite, still manages to amaze those who try it on the Eagle Rock campus due to the mark it left on those who first experienced it after its launch in 2010. One taste tester remarked, “The juice was my savior when it was first given to me.” It evokes a nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of juice many students seem to have enjoyed before. While sampling, it was noted that berry juice had the best aroma overall. Many praised it for being the “whole package—taste, scent, color, and deliciousness.” In the end, berry juice stood out for its ability to blend taste, scent, and nostalgia into a complete package that continues to win over students, proving that even after more than a decade, it remains a cherished favorite on campus.

However, berry juice wasn’t as strong a hit among some students. Although the smell and flavor contribute to its appeal, many found it too overpowering. Comments like “It’s overly sweet; it’s too sweet” were common. Another student stated, “It tastes like pure sugar; the only good thing about it is the smell.” While other factors contribute to its allure, the sweetness can become overwhelming after a few sips. Despite its loyal fans, it’s clear that the wild berry blend is not for everyone.

Biased POV

Not only did students have strong opinions, but one of our beloved teachers, Mr. Hicks, had never tried our juices before. I took the initiative to ask him to taste each juice. He noted that he had never sampled any of them but still had strong opinions. Regarding orange juice, he said, “It reminds me of Sunny D; it’s not overly sweet.” When he tasted apple juice, he remarked that the smell was reminiscent of “sweet, delicious apples,” although he found it too sweet for his liking. Finally, with the berry juice, he found the overpowering aroma pleasant, but he also noted that the taste was excessively sweet. Ultimately, he concluded that orange juice was number one.

Conclusion

In the end, the debate over which juice is the best at Eagle Rock High School concluded with orange juice reigning supreme. Its classic nostalgic appeal made it the majority favorite, while apple juice came in a close second due to its emotional ties and milder flavor. Berry juice, despite its overly sweet nature, remains a memorable choice for those who appreciate its bold profile, proving it still has loyal fans, even if it doesn’t claim the top spot.
