Team profile: JV girls soccer

Teamwork is the keyword that describes the spirit and drive of our school’s junior varsity girls soccer team. They are one of the hardest working teams in the whole school, supporting each other in their journey to succeed.

They started off the season with a game against Bravo. Many recall being proud of how they performed at the game and how happy they were when they got their first goal. Coach Ricardo Escobar recalls how nice it felt to hear the girls talking about how they performed after games, being especially proud as the girls celebrated their first victory.

Coach Ricardo Escobar became the coach when his two daughters started playing sports in high school, and he wanted to be a part of that experience. He began as a volunteer and eventually was offered the opportunity to be the head coach. He has been coaching at Eagle Rock ever since.

Despite being JV, the team is made up of extremely talented players who work hard and show extreme dedication to the team on and off the field. Edith, the central defender, says that they are “working very well together as a team” and that they “have come very far since the beginning of the season.” She also mentions that the team has a great sense of community and that they are always supportive of each other, even when mistakes are made.

Coach Ricardo Escobar is especially proud of the team’s improvement during the year, despite the limited practice space that they have available. One of his favorite things about their coach is being able to see the improvement of the individuals and the team as a whole. They have improved a lot since the beginning of the season, and he’s very proud of their abilities to grow through practice. He is also proud of the students who were able to move up to varsity after improving.

The junior varsity girls soccer team works hard to have a great sense of spirit and community. In the coming seasons, they will improve even more and get even more talented than they already are.
