HL's Kitchen: part one
Art by Jarisse Nabung Eagle Rock High School has long been a peaceful place. When you enter campus, it is as if you are stepping into a mystical garden of whimsy and joy. But do not be fooled by the school’s tranquil exterior, as the forbidden garden is riddled with snakes: feuding teachers. As of last semester, twelfth grade teachers—specifically those associated with the IB—were required to create a schedule for their student’s IAs. However, their interests clashed… schedul

What does ERHS think of the phone ban?
Art by Faye Deetsch Welcome back Eagles to another year of school! Back to school also means saying goodbye to our phones, as Eagle Rock has refined its phone ban policy. Last year, many remember that we were expected to put our phones away in the infamous Yondr pouches at the beginning of first/fifth period. This year, the system has upgraded, and we are now told to lock our phones away when we enter campus. Now, everyone has different opinions on this ban, and that got me t

Architecture of ERHS
“Dick” Whittington, Eagle Rock Junior High School, USC Digital Library, California Historical Society Founded in September, 1927, the school you’re probably reading this article in has been around for a while. Of course, the buildings, bungalows, and landscaping used to be quite different. “Eagle Rock Jr/Sr High School” has gone through several changes, both extreme and miniature in its 98 years open. The original buildings used to be in a beautiful Mission Revival style whi

Teacher profile: Mr. Aguilar
Photo by Nyda Hosack Since he started teaching here at ERHS 26 years ago, Mr. Aguilar has been the energetic, inspirational Algebra 1 and Financial Algebra teacher who currently resides in room B34; a bungalow right next to the North Gym. In addition to teaching math, he is also the school’s soccer coach. He’s been playing the sport since he was around 5 or 6 years old, and considered himself decent at playing it. Mr. Aguilar played soccer at the high school level and even at

The rise and fall of Pillarhenge
Art by Zazie Pritchett-Sidle Our town’s mysteries continue as the neighborhood landmark, coined “Pillarhenge,” continues to confuse. If you haven’t read the previous story on Pillarhenge , here’s some background. This site has been abandoned for decades, appearing as nothing but 27 gated-off poles in an arch. The origin of the pillars is unclear, but they’ve been around for a very long time and have had some notable events go down, including a murder in 1978. Clearly, this

Senior night vlog: the last game on our field
As our varsity football team took to the Don Mengel Field one last time, we couldn’t help but cherish the memories created there over the years. On October 10th, the Class of 2026 was honored during the Senior Night football game. The Eagles triumphed over Lincoln with a final score of 35-14, doing the field proud in its final game. While we eagerly await the new renovations, we will no doubt miss the field that created such valuable memories for students and staff alike here

The chokehold that workplace TV shows have on America
According to IMDb’s top 100 TV show list, 46% are set in a workplace. In a random google form survey of students in grades 7-12, 56% selected a favorite series that takes place in a workplace as well. Based on this research, why is this genre of TV shows so popular? These numbers show workplace comedies are everywhere, but statistics alone don’t explain why they matter. “I love mockumentary or workplace comedies,” writes an anonymous 10th grader, whose favorite show is Abbot

New Goodwill in Pasadena
On Friday, August 22, Pasadena hosted its 4th Goodwill grand opening. Located on E. Colorado Blvd., the well-known second-hand retail store opened its doors to thrifty shoppers, resellers, and budgeting students. Only 0.2 miles from the Pasadena City College campus, the styles in-store seem to be catered to younger shoppers. While this seems like the perfect opportunity for customers to shop cheaply and get trending pieces that resonate with their fashion taste, something off
