About

Before coming to Eagle Rock High School, Winter Ryu-Whitney (she/her) was already a journalist. She wrote and led her elementary school’s paper: most notably, she wrote advice columns from the point of view of her cat! But aside from journalism, you could’ve probably found Winter drawing or her head buried in a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book.

Now going into this school year as an 8th grader, she’s approaching her first year in The Eagle’s Scream as an opportunity to discover what she wants to do. Winter is also involved in clubs like the Asian American Heritage Club and Model United Nations: the latter of which she said, “My sister forced me to [join.]” Yet, she appreciates how Model UN has helped her improve her public speaking.

After high school, Winter sees herself going to college, with a particular interest in one that lets her do an exchange program to study abroad. She values independence and being able to sustain herself as an adult, but made a point to say, “I don’t want to do something boring where you have to sit at your desk… but I want to make a lot of money!” Nevertheless, Winter wants to be remembered as someone that made a positive impact in her community.
