About

Staff Writer Gavin Francisco (He/Him) is only in 8th grade; yet he has been writing incredible articles since he was a 7th grader, before he was even allowed to join journalism. As a kid, Gavin had interests such as chess, video games, and planes. He fondly remembers playing and beating his most nostalgic video game, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Another of his favorite memories was furthering his interest in planes and aircraft by asking his parents to take him to the In-N-Out by LAX. He stayed there for as long as they could stand, taking notes of all the different kinds of planes landing and taking off.

Today, Gavin is a routine-oriented person, having played the Wordle every day for 600+ days (and still going). He has gotten it right every single day with the exception of the first few games he played, and he’s even got it in 1 try before. Gavin still enjoys games, such as Animal Crossing, and his favorite TV show is either Young Sheldon or Stranger Things. One of his other hobbies is playing guitar, but he also mentions he wants to get back into chess and Rubik’s cubes. Gavin isn’t a picky person, though when he was in kindergarten, he vividly remembers disliking the taste of licorice. Besides that, he loves to try food from all cultures. Gavin loves soup, such as Pho, and his favorite Filipino dish, Sinigang.

Because he’s still so young, Gavin isn’t fully sure what he wants to do as an adult. As a kid, he dreamed of being a cardiologist, but recently he’s decided his main goal is to help people. If he isn’t a heart doctor, he’d love to be a pilot or an engineer. Gavin would live in the beautiful, sleepy town of San Luis Obispo, but also make sure to visit Europe a good amount. Overall, Gavin is a very driven, creative, and kind person, and you will definitely be able to tell through his storytelling and writing.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto: our world series MVP
Art by Afreen M. Yoshinobu Yamamoto: our world series MVP You’ve probably seen the video where the Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2025 World Series in a dramatic fashion. If you haven’t, here’s a quick recap: in the 11th inning of Game 7, Yoshinobu Yamamoto induced a ground ball to Alejandro Kirk of the Toronto Blue Jays that bounced to Mookie Betts, who then jumped on second base to start the game-winning double play. Yamamoto was eventually crowned the World Series MVP. As a Dodgers fan who...

2026 ERHS Winter Formal
On February 21st, ERHS’ annual Winter Formal dance took place in the North Gym, hosted by ASB (Associated Student Body). The vibrant Alice in Wonderland themed event lasted from 6 to 10 PM. The energy at the dance was vibrant, as exclaims of joy from people having fun radiated throughout the gym, especially when many student-favorite songs made people dance. FCO (Freshman Class Officers) and Orchestra helped fundraise for their specific groups by setting up concession stands. The DJ played...

The future of Stranger Things
Art by Emaline Varava The future of Stranger Things At 5 PM PST on New Years’ Eve 2025, thousands of outages were reported on Netflix. This was because their most popular show, Stranger Things , dropped its season finale. So many people were eager to watch it as they had been waiting three years since the last season, and for those who’ve been there from the beginning, nine years since season one. Once the finale dropped, Stranger Things would end its near-decade run of episodes. And yes,...
