With fall upon us, now's a perfect time to get cozy and sit back and enjoy a good show or movie! As the days get shorter and we enter into Thanksgiving break, there's nothing better than curling up in a warm blanket and watching something that matches the season's vibes! So here are some spoiler-free recommendations!
Gilmore Girls
Everyone knows the tried and true Gilmore Girls. With its catchy intro song and iconic quotes, the classic TV show is full of wild characters and crazy plot twists. This seven season drama is known for its fall theme, where it feels like autumn all year round. While I personally love this show, it is a lengthy one. If you're looking for a good show to binge, you will love this series. Throughout the seasons, you start to grow a connection with the characters and side with them. Personally, I’ve watched this series almost 3 times and am definitely team Jess!
Wednesday
Recently, Wednesday has been making big headlines. With the second season coming out and Lady Gaga starring in the new series, it's been all the rage. But with that comes the question: is it that good? I think this show is really entertaining and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Though it's not my personal favorite, I can appreciate the character development and plot. The actors are also really talented and make you feel like you're there with them. So if you want a fun and a little bit scary show, this would be the perfect fit!
Brooklyn 99
Full of fun characters and funny moments, Brooklyn 99 will not disappoint. Though this show is iconic and will definitely get a laugh out of you, it doesn’t seem to fit this list. But this seemingly unrelated show is actually one of my favorites for the season. If you've watched it before, you know that every season they have a heist episode. These episodes consist of the team trying to steal a trophy without others knowing. The episodes result in multi-step complex schemes with broken alliances and even teeth. Without fail, these episodes will make you laugh time after time. Even if you're not a Brooklyn nine-nine watcher, you can totally watch the heist episodes without context. If you're curious about the episodes, the first is called Halloween I.
Coco
Recently, Disney has been releasing movies left and right, with a toss-up of hits and misses. In 2017 however, Disney made a masterpiece, Coco. With multiple box office records in Mexico, this movie is known for its heartwarming plot. The story takes place during Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, where a 12 year old boy races the clock after getting transported into the Land of the Dead. The movie is a mix of action, comedy, and drama where his ancestors and relatives who have passed meet the young boy. Everything comes together to create a story that's both heart-wrenching and beautiful. This movie would be perfect for a family movie night.
Hocus Pocus
Another classic movie is Hocus Pocus. Currently, there is a Hocus Pocus 1 (1993) and Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), but the third movie is in the making. Though there is no release date, this movie will surely add more fun to the series. The movies revolve around 3 comedic witches who come back to life. They cast spells, turn people into cats, and build friendships along the way. The movies are fun and easy to watch, perfect for when you want a good laugh. Personally, I think that everyone should watch this movie at least once to join in on the fun.
Little Women
With several remakes, Little Women has definitely become a household name. My favourite of these is the most recent film, directed by Greta Gerwig. This movie is full of love, loss, and unbreakable connections. The story highlights the four March sisters and their lives, both past and present. In the 2019 version, the movie jumps between two timelines: one where the sisters are young, carefree teenagers and the other where they are adults. Ultimately, it ends with Jo pursuing her dreams of writing by telling the story of her and her four sisters.
