The Student Recognition Committee's postcard project

Updated: 5 days ago

Student Recognition Committee teachers thought about how they can communicate Eagle Rock’s middle school and high school students’ positive attributes to their parents and families. Their goal was to let the parents know that their students are seen and noticed by their teachers. So, SRC decided to have Eagle Rock teachers send out postcards with a message to various students around campus. Last year, only about 10% of teachers participated in sending out postcards. This year, the numbers rose to over 47%.

Ms. Maddox, a member of the committee, says, on the teachers participating more:

“It’s great to see more students getting the recognition that they deserve. If the teachers don’t reach all 2000 students, why not reach a portion of students?”

The Student Recognition Committee is one that is focused on appreciating and recognizing students (hence the name) who may not necessarily be top students, but simply making progress and showing potential for growth.

They also focus on letting the parents and families that take care of the student at home know that they should be proud of the child. As many of you know, during the monthly assemblies, we talk about the Rock motto. The SRC’s goal is to model the “kindness matters” acronym to students that are showing improvement in their classes. The appreciation goes both ways, recognizing teachers who sent the postcards to their students. The committee includes: Mr. Espanta, Ms. Cassandra Joyce, Ms. Campins, Mr. Martinez, Ms. Mena, Mr. Rohoman, Ms. Silverman, Ms. Tellez Mitchell, Ms. Washington, Ms. Maddox, and Mr. Wong.

Here are some enthusiastic teachers receiving their flowers last semester; stay tuned for more photos after the next delivery:
