The beloved Town Pizza was recently replaced with another veteran LA business: Bub & Grandma’s. So, to test which one tops the other, I visited Bub & Grandma’s last week, and I tried a few of their specialties over the course of a couple of days and rated my favorites. In no particular order:

Cheese pizza - 10/10

The cheese and sauce were paired perfectly, and the texture was great! I liked the mozzarella cheese; it wasn’t too salty or dry, and the sauce had the perfect balance of tomato and spice. The crust was slightly burnt, and the taste of burnt pizza with the cheese didn’t taste great, but it didn’t really affect the rest of the slice.

Cannoli - 8/10

A hard tortilla with sweet cream inside. The cannoli definitely captured the classic Italian-style dessert. The cannoli is a famous staple of Italian movies and culture, and Bub & Grandma’s honed it to the smallest detail of the crisp outside, to the cream never spilling out of the crust. Overall, for me, the cream was a little too sweet, but I would definitely recommend this sweet when visiting.

Garlic knots - 5/10

When I first saw these on the menu, I was super excited. Whether it’s at Pizza Hut or Domino’s Pizza, garlic knots at other pizza places always disappoint. They’re normally processed and overly garlicky, but at Bub & Grandma’s, I had a different reaction; they were extremely salty, with a slight garlic aftertaste, but vastly overpowered by the salt. Overall, I would still recommend trying them because the garlic taste and texture are great, just the salt intake was what scored them lower.

After visiting Eagle Rock’s newest pizza location, I would highly recommend going and ordering any of these items, as well as any others on their spectacular menu.
