Portals #1: Spain

Sometimes its easy to miss the small moments. When I went to Spain, there was no shortage of grand, dramatic things to see. Tall cathedrals and churches, winding streets with huge buildings, elaborate altarpeices and sprawling city views. All of this was beautiful and breathtaking, but when I looked a little closer, into the details, the colors of a wall, the construction of a building, and into the doors and windows of the small places, I noticed a whole other world.

I've decided to accompany each of these photos with a quote I feel matches them, to add a little bit of depth to the wonders behind the glass.

"Some days seem to fit together like a stained glass window. A hundred little pieces of different color and mood that, when combined, create a complete picture."

~ Maggie Stiefvater

“A leaf fluttered in through the window this morning, as if supported by the rays of the sun, a bird settled on the fire escape, joy in the task of coffee, joy accompanied me as I walked.”

~Anais Nin

"Every flower about a house certifies to the refinement of somebody. Every vine climbing and blossoming tells of love and joy" ~ Robert Green Ingersoll

"There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds." ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton

"Where ever I am I always find myself looking out the window wishing I was somewhere else." ~ Angelina Jolie

“Of all things visible, the highest is the heaven of the fixed stars.” ~Nicolaus Copernicus

"Great buildings, like great mountains, are the work of centuries." ~Victor Hugo

“I have seen dawn and sunset on moors and windy hills coming in solemn beauty like slow old tunes of Spain.”~John Edward Masefield
