Kane Juice: a review

On August 12th, 2023, Kane Juice opened on Eagle Rock Boulevard.  Kane Juice is in the heart of Eagle Rock and a quick walk or drive away from Eagle Rock High School. They specialize in organic, tasty drinks and acai bowls. These colorful, dreamy beverages are known as sugarcane drinks, which consist of sugarcane juice extracted from the plant. Kane Juice puts a fun twist on these juices by mixing them with other refreshing fruits to enhance their sweet taste. This new juicery is an exciting part of our Eagle Rock community, so it’s worth knowing whether or not these drinks are worth the 8 dollars they’re being sold for.

I paid Kane Juice a visit accompanied by ERHS 7th grader, Eva Jones, and 11th grader Lyric Jones. Initially, we noticed that it was very warm, and it didn’t seem like there was a working AC. The windows, clear glass and big, heated the quaint juicery up and honestly made the whole experience a lot less comfortable. When first walking in, you see two places where you order: the bar with the cash register, or a tablet. To get the full experience, we wanted the juicer to take our order and it was definitely worth it. The person who took our order was very kind and recommended one of their classic drinks, Strawberry Peach Sugarcane. Because there was only one person making the juices and bowls, we were told that we’d have to wait around 10 minutes for our order.

Strawberry Peach Sugarcane

After about 10 minutes, I got my Strawberry Peach Sugarcane juice and was very pleased with the size and lack of ice in it. I was preparing myself to receive a juice that was filled two-thirds with ice, but fortunately, that was not the case. I’ve never tried sugarcane juice before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but for the price, I was expecting it to be good. Overall, I paid 8 dollars before tip and got the regular size, which is 24 oz., and I was not disappointed. This drink was sweet and refreshing, and made the hot juicery a lot more bearable. I did taste strawberry a lot more than peach, but oftentimes that is the case with drinks that fuse multiple fruits. Overall I would give this drink a 9 out of 10 for the actual taste and a 6 out of 10 for the price that it is being sold at.

Ube Bowl

Eva ordered the ube bowl with strawberries, mango slices, almonds, coconut, bananas and chia seeds. She is a lover of acai and ube bowls, and was excited to taste this new spot as it is very convenient due to it being so close to Eagle Rock. Eva was not pleased with the price of the bowl, and explained that her hopes were high due to her paying almost 9 dollars on this ube bowl. Giving the initial taste of the bowl a 9 out of 10, she explained that she loved how refreshing it was and how fresh the fruit was, but wished she could pair the ube bowl with Nutella butter which was unfortunately not on the menu. After factoring in the whopping 9 dollars of her bowl, Eva gave it a 5 out of 10. Keep in mind that these are the taste buds of a seventh grader with the income of a seventh grader, so if you ever feel like sparing 9 dollars on an acai or ube bowl, then it sounds like Kane Juice is a convenient and tasty choice.

Coconut water N’ Sugarcane

Lyric, the person that actually paid for Eva’s Ube bowl, ordered the Coconut Water N’ Sugarcane juice. Lyric was very excited to try Kane Juice's rendition of Coconut water as she is a lover of coconuts and has been looking for a new juicery nearby. She loved the bits of fresh coconut that were included in this drink and appreciated that it was made fresh. Although she enjoyed this drink, she was displeased with the eight-dollar price of the beverage and said that she could have gotten something similar for a cheaper price at Sprouts. “If I wanted a good coconut water I could have gone to sprouts and bought a coconut for half the price,” Lyric says. Lyric further explained that if it weren’t for the price, this spot would become a new favorite of hers, but unfortunately it is just too expensive.

Overall, I do recommend you try this new juicery if you're a fan of Cane Juice, but be prepared to drop a couple of bucks.
