Whitney Marquez is voted the senior class’s “Best Dressed” student, and she definitely lives up to the title. With her statement earrings and crocheted tops, Whitney embodies the fun and creative side of fashion, while also including intricate details in her pieces and wardrobe to make them different and unique.
Whitney first fell in love with fashion in kindergarten when she and her aunt would connect by making her halloween costumes.
“I just saw the process of making clothes and I just fell in love with it. I was always excited for Halloween.”

At 13, Whitney started making and altering her own clothes and used her talent to connect with those around her. Her grandpa taught her how to sew using a sewing machine and through their shared language of art and fashion, were able to grow closer. Whitney explained, “It was really nice spending that time with him.”
“He only speaks Spanish and I don’t speak fluently, but connecting through something more than words was beautiful.”
Whitney’s love of fashion, although grew from a very young age, has transformed into a true passion and talent that is apparent in any space she’s in. Whether it is her monochromatic outfits or her crocheted accessories, Whitney’s eye for a good piece of clothing or accessory is obvious.
One of the pieces Whitney is always on the lookout for is a patterned skirt. She enjoys going to the thrift store to search for a funky skirt to plan all the different outfits she could make from it or find accessories that are unique to her and her style.
“I love statement earrings… they make the outfit elevated.”

Something that makes Whitney’s style so unique to her is that she is always strutting a new look. She has the ability to transform the most simple and basic into an elevated piece that leaves people in awe of her talent. She strives to make every piece of hers into something different and because of this, shirts are her favorite to alter and elevate. Whitney finds that shirts allow her the creative freedom to create something that she doesn’t already have in her closet.
Whitney plans to follow her passion into the next four years of her life where she plans to attend fashion school and continue to nurture her talent at creating and styling unforgettable pieces.
“I’ll always be linked to fashion… I’m never going to stop being creative in that way.”
