Twenty six members of SRLA (Students Run LA) participated in the Los Angeles Marathon last weekend! They represented our school to the 25,000 adults who ran alongside them. After training all year, their work paid off, in the form of a 26-mile long course.

The route started at the heart of Downtown LA, where our runners lined up to begin their 4-6 hour journey. They traveled through Hollywood and ended at Beverly Hills High School.

This year, the team had lots of new members eager to experience the grueling 4-6 hour run. As Annie Baker-Young recounted, “It was kind of surreal. I didn’t process I was running THE LA MARATHON”. Never having done anything of this caliber before, she

used her training with SRLA and the community support she gained to keep her going.

“Those last 6 miles I just really felt like I was gonna actually do it and that really pushed me through it. It was very fun and amazing and it was also painful.” -Annie Baker-Young

Not all members were new to marathon running; Winter Ryu-Whitney has been a member of SRLA for two years and isn’t planning on stopping anytime soon. This year in particular, she wanted to focus on improving her time from the prior year. She accomplished this goal, getting a time over an hour better than in the 2025 Marathon.

“I never would’ve dreamed of running a marathon if SRLA hadn’t provided this opportunity. As Mr. Wong says, “This is not a marathon training program; this is a character building program”.

Winter believes in the program’s ability to give anyone the chance to become an amazing runner, saying, “If any part of running a marathon interests you, do it.”
