Orange County turns orange
At 11:54 a.m. on September 8th, a cloud of orange smoke was spotted on South Cypress St., La Habra by nearby firefighters. It was caused by Shepard Bros., a manufacturing company that creates heavy duty cleaning supplies such as sanitizers, bleach, and detergents. Workers in the building stated that they were doing a routine clean of the machines when the cleaning products came into contact with other chemicals lying nearby. There was no actual fire, but a chemical reaction which filled the place with orange gas and smoke. The Los Angeles County Fire Department as well as the La Habra Police Department mandated a shelter-in-place across a one mile radius. Eddie Diaz, the L.A. County Fire Department captain assured locals that this “wasn't because [they] suspected that everyone was at risk, it was because [they] wanted to make sure that no one was, just in case." By 2:30 p.m. the local residents were allowed to leave their homes, and the streets from Lambert Road to La Habra Boulevard were reopened.
