As someone who rarely has any money, let alone to spend on Steam, I usually satisfy my game addiction with free games. If you prefer to play your free games on shady websites, this is not the article for you. If not, enjoy this list of five free (and 100% official) video games!
Warning - This article may contain slight spoilers for these games.

PSA to anyone who attempts to play this; this game may or may not break your computer. I personally have a very old Mac, and about fifteen minutes into the game my computer started overheating and the speaker started crackling. I ended up having to take half-hour breaks to let the Mac rest, which was definitely a loss for the game. Otherwise, this was an amazing experience. The game is based off of an animated YouTube series situated around the titular ENA (pictured above), a Picassoesque girl with intense mood swings. It's very random and odd at times, but in the best possible way. The characters are interestingly weird (a Nosferatu-coded vampire who is totally not a penguin in disguise, why would you ask?). The plot is kind of confusing at some points, but all in all, this was a great game, and I would definitely recommend this to someone with a better PC.

Spoiler - this is a horror game. At first, it definitely seems like your average anime-themed dating game, but after an ingenious use of file manipulation, the plot turns one-eighty into three gruesome deaths and a self-aware AI. Although the story is decent, you have to replay the game three times to get to the interesting ending, which ended in a lot of spamming the space bar to get through the slightly dry dialogue. The art style of the game is really

good at replicating the modern anime style. The only problem is that I don't really like anime that much, but to someone who does, I definitely recommend this game mainly based on the art.

There is a lot of media that has a story centered around some form of the afterlife, and Purrgatory is one of the top of the list for me. I was drawn to this game at first because cat themed game! But I was genuinely surprised at how much effort was put into this when I first played it. Plus, you can play it on your browser for absolutely free. (You can even play it on Chromebook!)
The plot is essentially that you arrive in the afterlife and get sent to a realm where seven people that weren't good enough to go to heaven and not bad enough to go to hell are kept. Strangely, you have no memory of your former life.

You have to interact and get to know the other characters throughout the game, and as you get to know them more, they eventually open up to you about their past lives. Eventually, with your help, they are admitted into heaven. I recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a chill and emotional gaming experience.

Horror. French people. What could be a better combination? If you ever wanted to work at a restaurant, this game will change that.
This one can be found on some online websites, but do not use them, as they are 100% not allowed or endorsed by the creator of the game. Even though the game is free, nobody wants their hard work to be pirated.
Upcoming Games

This game will be coming out sometime in September - October, and will most likely be free to play, according to the creator's social media. This game revolves around a twisted version of Wonderland, and the protagonist, Alice, attempting to escape. She may actually be hallucinating this from an insane asylum but nobody but the creator knows yet. If you would like to keep up to date with the game's impending release, look up @SymphonySonata on most social media platforms.
Gaming is considered an expensive hobby, which it can be, as a good PC can cost thousands of dollars at the least. There is a small, but not unimportant effort to make gaming more accessible to more people, and more games that can afford it are switching to lower costs.
