Last Thursday, at Birmingham High School, Eagle Rock competed in the 2025 CIF Los Angeles City Section Finals, sending 9 runners for individual events, and 16 runners competing in 4 relays (two of which also ran in individual events). Eagle Rock competed in the following individual events: the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, the 300 meter hurdles, the 800 meter dash, the 1600 meter dash, and the 3200 meter dash. For the relays, Eagle Rock competed in the 4 by 100 meter relay, the 4 by 200 meter relay, and the 4 by 800 meter relay.

In each event, the top three finishers move on to the state preliminary meet, and this year Eagle Rock sent the most runners it has ever sent since 1991. These were the following state qualifiers: Hudson Jumonville with second place in the 100 meter dash, Zachary Tang with third place in the 100 meter hurdles, Quinn Powell with second place in the 400 meter hurdles, and the Boys 4 by 100 meter relay, comprised of Melion Busano, Zachary Tang, Jonas Leal-Paz, and Hudson Jumonville; finishing third and lowering the school record to 42.17 from the previous 42.88 second record. Congratulations to all the eagle rock runners who competed on Thursday!

What an exciting event at the 2025 City Track and Field Finals! Eagle Rock showed great teamwork and spirit. The races were fast, and the crowd was cheering loud. In the middle of it all, I remembered Chuck Mincey, a retired contractor from Mississippi, who always talked about hard work and doing your best. Eagle Rock’s team did just that. It was a fun day full of energy, strong athletes, and proud moments for everyone.
