This Saturday, April 26th, 2025, The Eagle Rock High School Alumni Association will be holding its annual Soaring Eagles Banquet where they honor teachers, staff, community members, and graduates who have contributed to the betterment of our community and school. This tradition dates back nearly 30 years to 1996 when Frank Wheat, Thomas Byrnes, Maureen Duffy-Lewis, Coach Larry Houston, and Bob Rivera were all celebrated for their various contributions to the school and larger community. The list of recipients since boasts some true Eagle Rock royalty such as Coach Mike Lomen (as in the Michael Lomen South Gym!)

While these names may not seem familiar to today’s students at Eagle Rock, one of this year’s recipients is sure to ring a bell. Along with two community members/alumni is ERHS’s very own Mrs. Youngblood-Jarman receiving the prestigious honor and acknowledgement.

Mrs. Youngblood-Jarman has been an unwavering force of positivity and a beacon of academic excellence for years at our school. Her contributions to our English program are invaluable and characterized by her fascinating anecdotes that both enhance the material she is teaching and engage the students. Not only this, her work as the director of the Totem Yearbook year after year has helped memorialize and historicize generations of memories. This is obviously no easy task, but one that is most certainly a labor of love.

“I am surprised to find such a strong knit community in Los Angeles. [...] My kids tease me that I’m like a celebrity because my students always come up and stop me.” – Youngblood-Jarman

With all the hard work she pours into making this school a better place, The Eagle’s Screams commends Ms. Youngblood-Jarman and her fellow recipients of their award and would like to extend our deepest gratitude for their service. Congratulations!

Youngblood-Jarman will be honored at the Women’s 20th Century Club on the 26th in a ceremony featuring a speech delivered by her teacher bestie, Mr. Oliveros. All information can be found on the infrographic below.
