  1. Backrooms - In Theaters May 29

Backrooms is a supernatural Sci-Fi A24 horror film that came to theaters on May 29th. With a budget of around $10 million, it made $81.5 million in the domestic box office. When a therapist’s patient mysteriously disappears, she ventures into the unknown to find him and discovers an entire dimension beyond reality. The patient ends up stuck in a battle with his inner self and imagination and loses touch with reality. The director, Kane Parsons, took inspiration for this movie from his web series, “Backrooms” and uses the perspectives of the characters’ journeying into liminal space known as the backrooms to make the audience feel as if they are there too, wondering what will be found around each corner. Parsons, only 20 years old, is making his directing debut with this highly anticipated movie for the many people curious to see how the internet phenomenon transforms itself into a movie.

  1. Disclosure Day - In Theaters June 12

Directed by Steven Spielberg, this sci-fi thriller is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat. The movie stars Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild, a meteorologist, and Josh O’Connor as Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity whiz, whose lives are both disturbed when confronted with the possibility that there may be non-human intelligent life on Earth. Spielberg, widely considered one of the best filmmakers in cinema for directing countless classics including Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List, is sparking excitement for the release of Disclosure Day. Some fans are excitedly awaiting its release, believing it is closely intertwined with Steven Spielberg’s 1977 sci-fi thriller, Close Encounters. Close Encounters is about a group of people who attempt and succeed to contact aliens.

  1. The Odyssey - In Theaters July 17

This exciting adaptation of the classic, Homer’s “the Odyssey” will be out on July 17th. This movie is directed by Christoper Nolan, making it his first movie since 2023’s Oscar Best Picture winner, Oppenheimer. Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson are only a few of the stars bringing this movie to life. The movie follows the Greek king of Ithaca, Odysseus as he tries to get home from the Trojan war. Although the Odyssey is an epic classic, there is no doubt that Nolan’s rendition will be innovative and people are curious to see the tone this revival takes. Another point of curiosity is the budget for the Odyssey. The movie’s budget is reportedly 250 million USD, a whopping 150 million more than Oppenheimer’s budget. This leaves many fans wondering how huge the scale of the movie will be, especially when shown in its intended form, IMAX.

Also starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, as well as Sadie Sink, this movie has no shortage of stars.
